NCCK wants more funds for schools
National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) North Rift Chapter wants county governments in the bandit-prone region to channel more resources in the construction of additional learning institutions to ensure 100 per cent transition of learners.
Chapter chairman Bishop Emmanuel Chemengich said the move will go a long way in checking the rising cases of insecurity being perpetrated by the youths in the affected counties.
The cleric challenged governors from the six counties of West Pokot, TransNzoia, Turkana, Elgeyo Marakwet, Uasin Gishu, Samburu and Baringo to ensure 100 per cent of the children and youths in the region go through basic, secondary and tertiary education.
Insecurity must not be allowed to keep children out of our public schools any more. We urge our governors to put more emphasis on the construction of more schools if we expect to address the decade long incidents of cattle rustling and banditry that is being perpetrated mostly by the school going children,” said Chemengich of Kitale ACK.
Bishop Chemengich spoke on Saturday at Reformed Church of East Africa in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu county during the election of NCCK North Rift chapter officials where he was elected unopposed as the chairman.
Other officials who went un-opposed include Moderator Samson Akoru of RCEA (Vice chair), elder Samuel Sawe (Treasurer), Pastor Evelyne Marindich (Women Representative), Rev Silas Ruto (Youth Representative) and Daniel Kogo (PWD Representative).
Bishop Chemengich took issue with the national and county governmentsover the manner in which they were handling the thorny issue of insecurity in the volatile North Rift region.
