Ndindi Nyoro launches talent quest to c*mbat a********m, empower youths in Kiharu
In an effort to curb alcoholism and drug abuse in Kiharu constituency, area Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro has launched a sports programme targeting the youth in the area.
The initiative, which will include various sports activities such as football, volleyball, netball, tae-kwo-ndo and athletics, will also serve as a platform to identify and nurture local talent.
Nyoro (pictured) mentioned that, during this festive season, when most youth, particularly those in secondary school and college, are at home, they are prone to indulging in alcohol due to lack of engagement.
He stated that over 300 teams have registered to participate in various activities, adding that the best ones will receive enhanced training.
Highlighting the untapped potential among the youth in the area, he noted that sports could serve as a source of livelihood for many.
“As we talk about unemployment among the youth, there are other opportunities which they can explore and make a living out of it,” he added.
Regarding football, he mentioned that a local team, MSEAL, has already made it to the national level, indicating untapped potential.
“The teams that will emerge best in football will be mentored and trained by MSEAL and our aim is to have players at both national and international level,” stated Nyoro.
