Here is what you need to know to get up to speed with today's happenings.

Reduced rains

The ongoing rains are today expected to reduce the intensity.

According to a post shared by the Kenya Met Department on Thursday, the rains are expected to reduce after persisting from Friday to Saturday.

"The heavy rainfall is predicted to intensify to more than 50mm in 24 hrs over the Rift Valley, Highlands West and East of the Rift Valley including Nairobi area, Southeast Lowlands, Lake Victoria Basin and off the coast on 26th to 27th April 2024. It is likely to reduce in intensity on 28th April 2024. The heavy rainfall is likely to be accompanied by gusty winds, large ocean waves in the Indian Ocean and strong southerly winds in the eastern sector," the weatherman said.

Blackout

5 counties will today experience a scheduled blackout, Kenya Power has confirmed.

In a statement shared on Saturday, Kenya Power said the interruption is meant to facilitate maintenance and upgrades of power lines to the network.

"Notice is hereby given under Rule 27 of the Electric Power Rules that the electricity supply will be interrupted as here under: (It is necessary to interrupt supply periodically to facilitate maintenance and upgrade of power lines to the network; to connect new customers or to replace power lines during construction, etc.)," Kenya Power said.

The counties that will be affected include Nairobi, Kajiado, Kisumu, Bungoma and Siaya Counties.

In Nairobi, the blackout will affect parts of Dandora and Mwiki for eight hours from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Areas that will be affected include; Kenafric Industries, Ngumba Est, KBL Houses, Lucky Summer, GPOBA Korogocho, Dandora Phase 2 & 3, Mwiki, Safaricom Mwiki, Sunton Police Post, Sunton Est, Gituamba, Kenyatta Farm & adjacent customers.

Kajiado areas that will be affected by the blackout are Ngong, Kibiko, and Ngong Vet.

Places that will be affected from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm include; Oloolaiser High Sch, Whole of Kibiko, Kimuka, Oloshoibor, Saikeri, Ngong Town, Ngong Hills Milimani, Kengen, Civil Aviation, Zambia, Scheme 305, Elpaso, Olepolos, Juanco Vet Farm, Kangawa, Whole of Kerarapon, Bulbul Bondeni, Masai Rd, Dedan Rhino Lekkurukki, Summer Drive, Kahara Shopping Centre, Muthaiga, Olkeri, Ololua SGR, Parts of Gataka, Ololua DC, Imani & adjacent customers.

In Kisumu the blackout will affect parts of Nyangoma Mission from 8 am to 5 pm.

Areas that will be affected include; Nyangoma Mission Hosp, Otho Mkt, Ngere Mkt, Ongilo Mkt, Obago Mkt, Masongo Junction, Ombei Mkt, Miwani CBD & adjacent customers.

Parts of Bungoma that will be affected from 8.30 am to 3 pm are Matisi and Matulo.

Places that will be affected include; Matisi Water, Matulo, Milo, Kuuywa, Khalumili, Ngwelo, Munyikana, Weighbridge, Shell Filling Stn, Total Filling Stn, Hass Filling Stn, Yalusi, Mangana, Mwembula, Matulo RC, Olukulu Hotel Makhele & adjacent customers.

In Siaya, the blackout will affect Kitambo area and Luanda Kotieno from 8 am to 5 pm.

Areas that will be affected include; Wera, Oyude, Aram, Kalandini, Ruma, Gagra, Omboye, Majango, Nyilima, Lwak Girls, Lwak Mkt & adjacent customers.
