National Tree Growing Day

President William Ruto is today expected to lead the country in celebrating the National Tree Growing Day and remembering Kenyans who died from floods.

Addressing the country on Wednesday, Ruto urged Kenyans to come together and plant trees to mitigate the effects of climate in honour of the flood victims. He stated that the holiday will see the launch of an extensive tree-planting program to plant at least 200 million trees.

"We have set aside this day as part of the commemorative efforts of those we have lost in the floods and it will be marked with a major tree-planting exercise aimed at mitigating climate change," the Head of State said.

"If it will be possible, we should plant at least 200 million trees on Friday and work towards improving our environment."
