NLC head of investigations died of heart attack
The National Lands Commission (NLC) head of Investigations Antipas Nyanjwa, who collapsed and died on Monday, suffered a heart attack, an autopsy report shows.
Chief Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor, yesterday conducted the autopsy at the Montezuma Monalisa Funeral Home.
Nyanjwa’s brother, Kennedy, said the report indicated that the deceased’ body had no external injury and that his internal organs had also been scrutinised.
“Dr Oduor realised there was some bit of lack of oxygen in Nyanjwa’s blood. Mostly, we have been informed it is a heart attack,” the brother said.
Nyanjwa collapsed at the Soiree Gardens along Kindaruma road in Kilimani.
Nyanjwa, a former DCI officer and a forensic handwriting and document expert, had experienced difficulties in breathing and started convulsing at the restaurant where he was waiting to be joined by a friend.
According to eyewitnesses, the deceased appeared to have felt extremely dizzy when going to the washrooms and held onto a pole.
An employee at the restaurant rushed to his aid and informed the management. He was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The family yesterday said they were satisfied with the preliminary report and said they did not suspect any foul play.
“Let us disseminate the fact that the pathologist has noticed it is a heart attack and nothing else,” the brother said.
Dr Oduor also collected samples, including blood for further toxicology and the results are expected in the next one month.
Nyanjwa, a father of five, is survived by two wives who were both present during the autopsy.
He will be buried on April 30 at his rural home in Rongo, Migori County.
