Wrangles bedeviling the County Assembly of Nairobi continued with a section of Members of the County Assembly (MCA) allied to Speaker Beatrice Elachi dismissing claims of “militarisation” of the capital.

The MCAs, who spoke a day after a scuffle ensued between law enforcers and pro-Sonko leaders who forcefully stormed Elachi’s office in their new attempt to serve her with the impeachment notice, said the police were doing the right thing, which is to maintain law and order.

“City hall is not a place where you can just come with your goons and start causing mayhem.

It’s the headquarter of the capital city and the police did the right thing to protect our Speaker,” said Nominated MCA June Ndegwa.

Ndegwa also took a swipe at some women leaders who have since come out to condemn Elachi saying their acts were just hypocritical as they never spoke when goons also tried to attack Elachi when she resumed the office.

“The same leaders attacking Elachi today are the same ones who always keep quiet when she is attacked. Is she not a women leader as well?’ posed Ndegwa.

Ndegwa maintained their earlier stand vowing to go after Sonko, whom they accuse of being behind Elachi’s woes.

“We are going to start the process tomorrow because he has let us down and we have got nothing to do with him. He should allow Badi to continue serving the people of Nairobi said Kayole Central MCA  Jeremiah Karani.

According to Karani, Elachi has more than 72 MCAs who are willing to stand by her while only 59 MCAs allied to Sonko have signed a motion to impeach Elachi.

“ We went to Statehouse and President Kenyatta urged us to work in harmony. But its sad that one Mike Mbuvi Sonko thinks the assembly should be run the way he wants.

We will not allow it and its better we even impeach him now,” he said.

Meanwhile, calls to probe police officers caught on camera assaulting Mlango Kubwa MCA Patricia Mutheu  gained momentum with different organizations telling Interior CS Fred Matiang’i to intervene and ensure all the guilty officers have interdicted.

Speaking yesterday in Nairobi, Kenya Women Parliamentary (KEWOPA) group questioned why for the last few days the assembly has seen an increased number of armed police officers despite the MCAs launching their complaints to the Inspector General.
