The Nubian community have expressed their excitement over the appointment of Mwanaisha Saida as the first lady judge of the high court ever to be appointed from the marginalised group since independence.

Speaking in Makina mosque in Kibra constituency after she made a tour to celebrate with area residents over the weekend Judge Mwanaisha said that her appointment demonstrates high confidence in the Government in the marginalised community.

“We are here today because everything is possible.  Do not look at your tribe or where you come from as a challenge that can not allow you to succeed but work hard and you will get where you want,” said Judge Mwanaisha as she thanked President William Ruto.

The new high Judge challenged other minority communities in Kenya to use her appointment as a ladder for moving forward saying that the current constitution guarantees the protection of human rights.

The Nubian Community in Kibra have on many occasions complained over human rights violations, such as lack of title deeds and subjection to unwarranted vetting before they are issued with identification cards. this has contributed to them not being able to access the government’s essential services.

Mwanaisha is one of the 20 High Court judges appointed last week by president William Ruto.

Over the problems, they are grappling with as a community Mwanaisha assured that she will use her role in the Government to fight for their rights.

“We are thankful as a community for the Government's gesture to appoint me as high court Judge. This is high confidence to the marginalised groups in the country”  she added.

Former area MP Imran Okoth who attended the event called on the government to protect the rights of marginalized communities saying that it’s their right to be appointed whenever there are government positions.
