Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has cancelled its Kakamega meeting that was scheduled for Friday, August 20.

The Party Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna announced the move saying it has been occasioned by Covid-19 protocols issued by President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday, August 18.

“It has come to our attention that in order to contain the spread of the Covid-19 virus, the Government has extended a ban on political gatherings for a further 60 days.

“We reiterate our Party’s commitment to compliance with the MOH guidelines in the containment of the Covid-19 Virus and urge the Government to ramp up vaccination in order for the country to speedily return to a semblance of normalcy,” Sifuna said in the statement.

However, another meeting scheduled for Thursday, August 19, will continue as planned.

Sifuna noted that the meeting will be held in strict adherence to Covid-19 protocols.

The consultative meetings aim at kickstarting ODM leader Raila Odinga’s 2022 presidential campaign across the country.

He is set to hold similar meetings across the country where he will engage regional leaders and their residents on his ambitions for Kenya.
