The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has expelled Uriri Member of Parliament (MP) Mark Nyamita.

The action against Nyamita was confirmed after ODM's Central Committee meeting, which was attended by the party leader Raila Odinga.

According to the opposition outfit, the expelled MP was summoned for the May 8, 2024, meeting at Chungwa House but he failed to show up.

"The party's Central Committee has had a meeting with its elected leaders from Migori and Kisii to get a briefing following recent worrying incidents in the two counties.

"Nyamita was invited to today's meeting but failed to attend. At this stage, the Party wishes to dissociate itself from Nyamita fully," ODM said in a statement to the press.

ODM also cautioned its members, especially those from Nyamita's constituency and the larger Migori County, against dealing with the sitting MP.

"We have granted his wish to no longer be part of us and advise our members in Uriri and Migori generally that he is an agent of UDA with the assigned task of sowing confusion and discord within ODM.

"Nyamita does not speak for nor represent the party at any level, and we advise our members to view and treat him and all those who support him accordingly," the ODM statement added.

In attendance

The meeting at the party's headquarters was attended by Migori Governor, Ochilo Ayacko, Woman Representative, Fatuma Mohamed, Senator Eddy Oketch, the MP for Suna West, Peter Masara, and his Suna East counterpart, Junet Mohammed.

From Kisii County, Antony Kibagendi (Kitutu Chache-South), and Obadiah Barongo (Bomachoge Borabu) were present. Patrick Osero from Borabu in Nyamira was also present.
