Former Nairobi County Governor Mike Sonko has been cleared by the Wiper to run for Mombasa governor seat.

Sonko will be deputised by Kisauni Member of Parliament Ali Menza Mbogo in a deal brokered by Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.

Sonko resigned from Jubilee Party and joined Wiper last month.

He was ousted as Nairobi governor in December 2020 over abuse of office and graft charges.

The former governor is still battling graft cases in court.

He will now battle it out against Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar (UDA) and Mvita MP Abdulswamad Sharif  Nassir (ODM), who are both eyeing the county's gubernatorial seat.
