Ole Sapit reveals what happened before Mudavadi walked out of church
The Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) archbishop Reverent Jakson Ole Sapit has revealed details of what transpired just before ANC party leader Musalia Mudavadi walked out of the church service held in Butere, Kakamega county.
Mudavadi walked out of the consecration service of Reverent Rose Okeno on Sunday, September 12, just after Ole Sapit had banned politicians from speaking in ACK churches prompting observers to think the ANC boss did so in protest.
However, Ole Sapit has set the record straight, stating that Mudavadi was not protesting against the decree he set.
“When Musalia was about to leave, he sent word to me saying he will leave because he had another function in Muranga,” Ole Sapit said.
The archbishop further stated that Mudavadi told him not to take offense when he, the ANC party leader, walks out of the consecration service.
“Mudavadi told me that he was not walking out in protest but because he had another function which required him to leave the church service much earlier,” Ole Sapit stated.
The archbishop also said that members of the clergy from his church have been barred from visiting politicians in their homes.
"We have directed that our Bishops, Reverends and church leaders must not be seen trooping to politicians’ homes. Their place is in the church to do evangelism,” Ole Sapit said.
Responding to claims that he walked out of the church service in protest, Mudavadi said his delegation waited for the conclusion of the consecration ceremony before they excused themselves.
"We told the archbishop that we were going to Murang'a and we were running late. We requested him to excuse us,“ Mudavadi said.
The ANC party leader said those claiming he stormed out of the church service are malicious and want to discredit him in the eyes of the public.
"We had stayed there for several hours and accomplished our mission there,” he added.
