The Anti-Corruption Court yesterday gave the defence two weeks to settle out of court a Sh48.9 million-graft case against former Kasarani MP Elizabeth Ongoro, her husband Ferdinand Masha Kenga and 16 others.

Scheduled for hearing yesterday before Senior Principal Peter Ooko, the case could not proceed because Kenga had engaged the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji to have the matter settled out of court.

The court was informed that the negotiations to settle the matter out of court were yet to be completed and thus asked for more time to deal with the matter.

At the same time, three of the accused persons were not represented as their lawyers failed to attend  court proceedings.

The accused trio asked the court to be given more time to engage other lawyers to represent them.

In his brief ruling, the magistrate gave them until November 22 to avail their lawyers or the case proceeds without them.

The former MP and Kenga together with 16 others face criminal charges related to embezzlement of Sh48.9 million from the Kasarani Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
