Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) deputy party leader Wycliffe Oparanya has said the party will not give direct nominations to candidates.

He said all aspirants for all elective seats will be subjected to nominations by party members.

He dismissed claims that aspirants who are close friends of the Party Leader Raila Odinga will be given certificates without being subjected to nominations.

"I will monitor and supervise nomination exercise to ensure it is free and fair. We have some leaders claiming they already have the certificates. They will be in for a rude shock," said Oparanya.

He said party officials should use their positions to bring more members and supporters in the party and not to use the positions to intimidate opponents.

Speaking during a funds' drive in aid of Bukiri Secondary School in Funyula, Busia, the Kakamega Governor said the party's National Elections Board (NEB) has the sole mandate of ensuring transparent nomination exercise that will be acceptable.

Former Funyula MP Paul Otuoma endorsed the Governor to be the handshake team spokesman from the region.

He said Oparanya should concentrate getting support for Odinga's presidential bid to ensure he wins.

"These other seats we will look for votes. Focus on ensuring Odinga gets more votes," said Otuoma.
