Opposition leader Raila Odinga will this morning lead a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting to explain to the members his next political move after two of his former allies ditched him in the last one week.

Raila is also expected to inform his troops of his strategy, which has seen him unleash some insights on how best the country, should be governed.

Apart from that, Raila who has not publicly declared whether he would make a fifth stab at the presidency in August 2022, will be under pressure to explain to his lieutenants when he will launch his bid and with which friends.

Sources confided to People Daily that although the NEC members will approve the 2021/2022 budget, the meeting will have heavy political undertones coming on only two days after Raila visited Mount Kenya.

On Tuesday, President Uhuru Kenyatta’s foot soldiers from Mt Kenya region gave the strongest hint yet that they would back Raila for the presidency should he decide to vie.

“We expect him to tell us if his tours and the rapprochement with his ‘Handshake’ partner will take us to Canaan.

We also expect him to give us direction on any new alliances or political formations that he intends to enter into,” said a source who sought anonymity.

Sources in ODM intimated the party is now looking up on Raila to give them the next course of political direction to take after his former Nasa allies appeared to isolate him.

Party Secretary General Edwin Sifuna confirmed to People Daily the Orange’s party NEC will have  a meeting to ratify the settlement of sharing of funds with Nasa affiliates, approve the budget and discuss the grassroot elections.

“I will be presenting the 2021/2022 budget to NEC members to approve before we start spending the money.

The party leader will also table his reasons for accepting to share the political parties fund with his co-principals so that NEC can ratify the decision,” said Sifuna.

Musalia Mudavadi’s Amani National Congress (ANC) and Wiper have ratified the decision to ditch Nasa, which they used to run against President Uhuru Kenyatta and deputy William Ruto in 2017.
