ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo on Sunday, February 19, 2023, held a meeting with members of the Luo Council of Elders at his home in Asembo, Siaya county.

In a statement, the CS said talks with the elders led by their chairman Ker Nyandiko Ongadi centred on the development gap in the Luo Nyanza region and the role the Elders can play in sensitizing the public on government development priorities and programmes.

"I had pleasure, this morning, to host the Luo Council of Elders, led by the Chairman, Ker Nyandiko Ongadi, at our Asembo home.

"We discussed development gap in the region and the role that the Elders can play in sensitizing the public on Gov't development priorities and programmes," Owalo said.

The meeting is seen as an attempt by President William Ruto to reach out to the Luo community that has rallied behind opposition chief Raila Odinga for years. Raila was Ruto's main challenger in the last presidential election, which the former Prime Minister claims was rigged.

Owalo. a former Raila aide, was among the close confidants of the Head of State from the region who were awarded plum positions in the Kenya Kwanza administration for their loyalty during the electioneering period.

Last month, President Ruto led a government delegation to the backyard of Raila in Siaya for the homecoming party of the minister.
