Owino: We did not arrest any candidate at Kiamokama but four ‘nameless’ individuals
Thursday, March 4th, 2021
The police have denied to have arrested election candidate Moses Nyakeramba but acknowledged the arrests of four unnamed individuals during the by-election exercise at Kiamokama, in Nyaribari, Kisii County on Thursday March 4.
In a statement by the National Police Service spokesperson Charles Owino, law enforcement officers arrested four persons committing election offences in the poll exercise. The police did not, however, name the four individuals arrested.
The police service denied allegations that they arrested one of the contestants vying on a United Democratic Alliance(UDA) ticket.
"The National Police Service has learnt of an allegation in the media that an aspirant for Member of County Assembly on Kiamokama Ward has been arrested," said Owino in a statement.
"The information is not true. The facts on the ground are that on 4th March 2021 at around 9.00 am. a group of unauthorized persons in three(3) motor vehicles drove in a polling centre intending to bribe voters," he continued.
Owino said there was no any election contestant among the four individuals arrested.
The PD Online can, however, confirm that Moses Nyakeramba, a contestant in the by election was among the people arrested and briefly detained at Kiamokama police post on March 4.
