Police boss refutes claims of Mungiki return
Deputy Inspector General of Police Edward Mbugua has refuted claims that the outlawed Mungiki sect has resurfaced in parts of Central Kenya region.
Mbugua said the public is just making a creation that the group is making a come back but this is not the case.
Speaking during a tour in Kigumo, the police boss said he has not heard any report of the re-emergence of the group calling for calm among the residents.
He said the rise in criminal activities does not necessarily mean the gang is back.
"There is nobody who goes by the name Mungiki but people are judged by their actions and I would urge the public not to generalize this issue," he said.

Mbugua however said the police officers are up to the task to ensure security is enhanced in all parts of the region.
He spoke during an inspection tour on the police housing project which was launched by the Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i last year.
The Deputy IG said the project had stalled for sometime citing poor flow of cash but promised to ensure the houses are completed in two month's time.
His statement however contradicts the remarks made by the Regional Commissioner Wilfred Nyangwanga who said the sect is gaining its roots in some areas.
Mr.Nyangwanga had hinted of an intensive crackdown in the area to flush out the members who are allegedly regrouping.
He said a special unit has been formed to do the raid within the next 60 days.
Last week, a burial of a man believed to have been the sect leader took place under tight security and the service lasted for only 15 minutes.
Two boys from Gatanga are also said to have been attacked by unknown people but the residents claim that the sect members were behind the bloody.
