Police in Changamwe, Mombasa county are holding a man who allegedly forced an 11-year-old boy to drink corrosive acid following a fight with his son.

Changamwe Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss Grace Wangoi said the suspect had been arrested, adding that police had sought for 14 days to conclude investigations into the matter before preferring relevant charges.

“On the said case, the suspect was arrested last week, arraigned before Mombasa Law Courts where the investigating officer requested for more time to conclude investigations,” she said.

According to the deceased’s mother Florence Aluoch, her son Vincent Ondongu was forced to drink corrosive acid by the father of his playmate after the two boys argued and fought over playing items in Magongo area of Changamwe sub county on November 5.

“Neighbours brought my son back home unconscious. Upon my arrival at home, I reported to police and managed to rush him to a nearby hospital where doctors performed First Aid before they referred me to Coast General Hospital,” she said.

She revealed that upon regaining consciousness, he narrated his ordeal of what he had undergone at the hands of four suspects who forced him to drink acid, after beating him and tying his hands and feet to a sofa set before forcing him to drink a 500 ml bottle of acid.

The matter had been reported at Changamwe Police Station under OB number 30/5/11/22 as an assault case.

Aluoch alleged that upon arrival at the Coast General Hospital, the minor was admitted at the hospital Intensive Care Unit (ICU) where he died five days later. Postmortem results conducted last Monday at the Coast General Hospital indicated that the minor died.
