Police in Kiambu are investigating the death of a 58-year-old engineer whose body was dumped at Kieni Forest near Kamunyaka village, along the Thika-Magumu highway.

They believe the man was killed elsewhere and dumped near the wildlife-infested forest. The body was wrapped in black polythene and stuffed in a bag, from which blood oozed.

According to a police statement, the man was positively identified as George Mwangi Kamau of Double M International, Kigali, Rwanda, and Preyan Enterprises.

Mwangi went missing on Sunday, October 9. He is the husband of Gladys Chania, a Kiambu-based politician who in the last General Election vied unsuccessfully for the Kiambu Woman representative position on a Jubilee Party ticket. In 2017, Chania also lost the Woman Rep position to current Githunguri MP, Gathoni Wamuchomba.

Police say Chania identified Mwangi at the morgue days after she reported him as missing. She reported the case at Mwea and Gachege police posts in Gatundu North on Monday and Tuesday, respectively.

“Mwangi’s body was taken to General Kago Mortuary in Thika,” police said. By last evening, police had arrested one person, a woman who is helping them with investigations.

Richard Mwaura, the Kiambu County DCI boss, said the case has been taken over by his county team in collaboration with homicide and forensic experts from police headquarters.

Further details indicate that the engineer was set to fly back to Rwanda next week after jetting in this month.
