Police in Eldoret hunt for driver ferrying fake goods

Police in Eldoret are looking for a bus driver who fled detectives’ dragnet yesterday after he was found ferrying counterfeit products worth more than Sh5 million.
The driver is reported to have been flagged down by Directorate of Criminal Investigations officers following a tip-off from members of the public at Maili Nne on Eldoret-Webuye highway.
On inspection of the bus, the officers discovered it had no passengers but instead loaded with counterfeit goods brought into the country illegally.
Impounded products
Among the fake products that were impounded were cables bearing East Africa Cables trademark logo, several bags containing Atlas shoes, cosmetics and Colgate toothpaste.
The officers then directed the driver to take the bus to central police station but on arrival at the station, he jumped off and fled on foot.
Uasin Gishu County Police Commander Johnstone Ipara said police have launched a man-hunt for him.
“The bus driver lied that he had forgotten some documents related to the impounded fake products only to disappear but my officers are hot on his heels until he is apprehended,” he said.
