Police launch hunt for NHIF official who vanished on Friday afternoon
An accountant with the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF), who left her office on Friday afternoon to unknown destination has been missing since then.
Detectives from the Kilimani Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are trying to trace the last movements of Grace Andeyo, 51, who left their Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) branch office, presumably for lunch.
According to the guards and colleagues, she was in a blue dress and was carrying a small paper bag. She, however, left her bag and mobile phones in the office.
“We have established that she left with one of her mobile phones with an Airtel line.
The phone signals indicated that she was near the Public Service Club in Upper Hill,” Kilimani sub-county police commander Lucas Ogara said.
According to the detectives, the accountant was last seen at Absa Bank, Mama Ngina Street that day at around 3.30pm.
She was reportedly on her way back to the office to finish her office assignment and later pick her car.
Ogara, however, said that phone went off on Saturday and since then she has not been heard from.
It was not established where she had gone as her car, a Volkswagen Polo registration number KBU 167J, is still at the KNH parking yard.
“Some relatives said she used to sell some beverages and spices and could have rushed to deliver some items to a client along Jogoo Road,” Ogara said.
Three days later, the accountant is yet to be found and has not communicated with any family member friends or colleagues.
“She left the office at 2pm and left a bag with the guard saying she would be back shortly. She never returned,” a colleague said.
On Sunday, the accountant’s nephew went and reported the matter at Capitol Hill Police Station and the Kilimani DCI boss Fatuma Hadi took over the investigations.
The accountant had worked in Thika before she was transferred to Industrial Area. Late last year, Andeyo was again transferred to the KNH branch.
“She is a mature woman. It is worrying that she has not communicated even with the family members.
We are, however, retracing her last movements and hope for the best,” Ogara said.
