Suspected international drug trafficker and former hospital nurse Beatrice Awuor Odhiambo and two accomplices were on Saturday arrested allegedly with narcotics of unknown value and 26 rounds of ammunition.

Police officers, acting on a tip off, raided a hotel along Spine Road in Kayole, Nairobi county and arrested Beatrice, 42, Geoffrey Okutu Otieno, 39, and Kenneth Okech Otieno, 31.

“The three are members of a gang known for trafficking drugs, especially Beatrice,” police said.

They added: “Upon searching their rooms, a powdery substance was recovered. Another package of a whitish substance and two firearm magazines with a total of 26 rounds of ammunition were recovered from their vehicle, KCB 068X”.

The samples were taken to DCI headquarters and the suspects could be charged in court today.

Last September 21, detectives stormed Beatrice’s house in Nasra, Kayole. They arrested her and recovered 60 pellets. She was charged at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport Anti-Narcotics Court.

Latest reports indicate traffickers commonly use roads as opposed to airports to carry out their businesses. Heroin, according to the report, is the most trafficked drug from Tanzania and through Uganda.

During last year’s raid, detectives identified one of the recovered passports as that of a drug trafficker who has an ongoing case in court. “Also recovered was a job identification card bearing the names Beatrice  Odhiambo, which identified her as a hospital nurse,” the DCI said.

Other passports recovered had the names  Caroline Adongo Mujibi and Risper Auma Ochieng.

Last October, Austine Obinwanne Igwillo, a Nigerian, was jailed for life and fined Sh180 million by the anti-narcotics court’s principal magistrate Lucas Onyina for trafficking 22kg of heroin valued at Sh66 million. In July 2016, Kenya made the second biggest seizure of cocaine (100kg) and arrested two suspects.
