A Nairobi lawyer was on Saturday morning fatally stabbed and his cousin seriously injured in Ongata Rongai by an unknown assailant.

Police are investigating the attack of Boaz Nyakeri near Maasai Lodge as he walked home with his cousin from a party at 5am.

By yesterday no one had been arrested in connection to the attack and police were yet to establish the motive.

Nyakeri was stabbed in the neck by the lone assailant who fled after the attack.

The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has called on the police to thoroughly investigate the incident.

Police said his cousin was also stabbed and injured in the arm as he tried to save the lawyer.

Nyakeri and his cousin had been at a party near Osoita Lodge and were walking home when the incident occurred. The two had spotted the man following them for a short distance but before they could decide to confront him or run to safety, the man lunged at Nyakeri and stabbed him in the neck.

Society’s plea

When his cousin tried to save the lawyer, the attacker also stabbed him.
A good samaritan rushed the two to Sinai Hospital where he was referred to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) but Nyakeri died while he was being attended to at the casualty section.

“He had bled a lot,” a senior police officer said, adding that an autopsy would be carried out tomorrow.

LSK Chief Executive Officer Mercy Wambua condemned the attack saying the responsibility placed on advocates as court officials and human rights defenders place them at a higher risk of attacks.

“We call on the government to put in place strategies to ensure that advocates, magistrates, judges as well as all court officials are provided with adequate security,” she said.
