Mystery surrounds the circumstances of the death of a 12-year girl whose body was found dangling at her aunt’s house at Kokwos estate on the outskirts of Eldoret town on Wednesday in Uasin-Gishu county.

The family of a grade five pupil at Uasin-Gishu primary school has ruled out suicide and is calling for a thorough probe into the death even as they pointed an accusing finger at the girl’s aunt who lived with her.

The family from Rongai in Nakuru county said they were alerted of the girl’s death by the area chief and the school’s administration.

“We feel there is something fishy going on in a bid to cover up the girl’s death but what we are only crying for is the girl to get justice. From the photos, we have seen she had bruises all over and her feet were touching the ground,” said Mary Njeri, a neighbour.

The aunt is said to have volunteered to live with the deceased after her mother passed on some years ago.

Uasin-Gishu County Deputy Police commander Zacchaeus Ng’eno said police who visited the scene found the body hanging at the grill of the door belonging to her aunt who reported to police that she had left the girl at the shop but later found out that she had committed suicide.

The body was collected and moved to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.
