Political heat rises in Kiambu as governor Nyoro, Thika MP lock horns
A simmering political rivalry between Kiambu governor James Nyoro and Thika MP Patrick Wainaina has heightened to a boiling point with the duo now making outright political exchanges.
In what seemed a well-choreographed onslaught on the MP, the governor and his deputy Joyce Ngugi today led a delegation of county officials to reprimand the MP in his home constituency.
The delegation that also brought on board the infamous bishop David Ngari alias Gakuyo who also happens to be Nyoro's political advisor and Thika town MCA Andrew Kimani castigated the MP for allegedly abandoning his parliamentary mandates and instead taking his 2022 gubernatorial aspirations to other parts of the county.
This, they said has been hampering operations in the devolved unit derailing initiation of development projects in parts of the expansive county.
The two political duels have been embroiled in a raging row after the county officials allegedly started to sabotage the MP’s development projects among them bodaboda shades he has put up in Gatundu North, South and Ruiru Constituencies.
Since March this year when the first Covid-19 case was announced in the country, Wainaina through his Jungle Foundation team has been going across Kiambu distributing materials to help combat the virus.
He has also been constructing bodaboda shades in different parts of the county to cushion motorbike riders from harsh weather challenges.
This has raised questions on whether the MP is interested in a bigger political seat, with speculation rife that he is eyeing the gubernatorial position.
The independent MP has however been reading mischief in what he maintains could be 2022 politics and fear by the county leadership to be outshined.
“I have been delivering the shade projects as requested by the operators of motorbikes from various parts of the county. It’s sad that some people have been pulling them down at night. It’s barbaric for anyone to fight developments,” he said.
The MP has maintained that leaders should, instead of fighting, complement each other on matters development and vowed to handle those vandalizing his projects head on.
Governor Nyoro has been on the spot for reportedly giving Kiambu East, where the MP happens to come from a raw deal in terms of development.
He has been accused of taking the major development projects in Kiambu West which is his home turf sidelining residents of Thika, Juja, Ruiru, Gatundu North and South Constituencies.
While touring Thika today, the seemingly furious leaders also accused the MP of taking projects to other parts of the county neglecting the area he was elected to serve.
They vowed not to allow disruption of county projects and insisted that they will continue to make inroads in any part of the county without fear.
“It’s time to work and our president has directed us to deliver for the people. I must however state that we don’t fear anyone and when the right time comes, we shall meet in the field,” said Governor Nyoro.
