Politicians in Nyamira County have called for the arrest of a nurse linked to the killing of a head teacher.

The leaders accused the county security agents of protecting the killers after being compromised, claims that police have denied.

Speaking during the teacher’s burial last week, politicians led by Governor Amos Nyaribo, MPs Joash Nyamoko (North Mugirango), Steve Mogaka (West Mugirango), Patrick Osero (Borabu) and Samwel Arama (Nakuru Town West) gave the county security team one week ultimatum to bring the killers of teacher Ezekiel Getangwa to book failing which they will demand their transfer.

Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) officials also threatened to block the opening of schools next week until the killers of the teacher are arrested and arraigned.

Well known

“We are asking the security team under the leadership of the County Commissioner Micheal Lesmam to bring the killers, who are well known, to book. Why has it taken too long to arrest the culprits?”  Nyamoko asked during the funeral ceremony held at Omorare Primary School.

High rate

Mogaka said there was a high rate of people being killed in Nyamira County in the last one month and yet the police had not brought the perpetrators to book.

Arama asked the Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome to investigate the conduct, competence and behaviour of police officers working in Nyamira county.

Knut assistant national Treasurer Ken Nyamwanda also warned that they will ask teachers not to report to duty when schools re-open next week unless those who killed their colleague are arrested and prosecuted.

Nyamwanda said many teachers had mysteriously died in Nyamira County yet the police had not made efforts to bring the murderers to book.

The family of the deceased, led by James Maganda, also accused the security officers of being compromised to protect the killers, claims which the County Commander Kimani Mitugo denied and assured the family that his officers were tracking the killers.
