Ali Hassan Mwakulonda from the little known Peoples Economic Democracy (PED) has been cleared by the party to battle it out for the hotly contested Msambweni Constituency seat.

Mwakulonda received his nomination certificate Friday afternoon alongside two other members of the Party; Mwakana Ngeti and Kebaso Morara respectively for Wundanyi/Mbale and
Kahawa Wendani wards.

"I have just received my Nomination certificate from the Party. With me was Hon. Ali Hassan Mwakulonda for Msambweni constituency and Hon. Ngeti for Wundanyi/Mbale," Morara told People Daily.

On September 18, the Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC) set December 15 as the date for the mini polls, and announced October 15 for commencement of the campaign period and cease on December 12.

The Msambweni seat fell vacant last March after then ODM MP, Suleiman Dori succumbed to cancer.

The Kahawa Wendani MCA’s seat fell vacant after Cyrus Omondi mysteriously died in India in February this year. Similarly, the Wundanyi/Mbale MCA seat fell vacant following Beatrice Mwabili’s death.

The IEBC will also conduct by-elections in Kisumu North, Dabaso in Malindi, Kilifi county and Lake View Ward in Nakuru.

IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati asked candidates vying for the positions to adhere to the Ministry of Health’s protocol's on the containment of COVID-19 during campaigns and the actual by-elections.

ODM nominated Omar Boga to carry it's flag for the December 15 mini polls in an handshake agreement with the Jubilee Party, which deputy president, William Ruto has contested throwing his weight behind an independent candidate, Feisal Abdallah Bader.
