Battle for Trans Nzoia governor intensifies as MP calls out Natembeya for being CS Wamalwa’s project
The battle for Trans Nzoia gubernatorial seat intensified during the funeral ceremony of Orie Rogo Manduli after leaders from the region traded political rhetoric on Saturday, October 9.
Addressing mourners in Saboti, Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa called out Rift-Valley Regional Commissioner George Natembeya who recently declared his candidature for being a political project.
In his address, a fiery Wamalwa presented his two terms in Parliament as a requisite factor behind his candidature, labelling Natembeya as Defence Secretary Eugene Wamalwa's project.
"I am a member of Parliament for Kiminini and this is my second term in office. And because leadership is from God, I am asking for a promotion so that in 2022 I am elected the governor of Trans Nzoia," Wamalwa said amid ululation from mourners.
The MP further stated that it is the electorate who will vote for the next governor of the county and not CS Wamalwa.
"It is the people of Trans Nzoia who will vote in the next governor. We are ready to deal with Eugune's project once and for all," Wamalwa said.
In response, Natembeya dared Wamalwa to step down from his position as MP and face him in the battle for the governorship quickly pointing that he would also resign from his post as Regional Commissioner.
"It is not right for you to have campaigned from 2017 but when fellow men step in the race, you begin acting up," Natembeya fired back.
The Rift-Valley Regional Commissioner (RC)further linked Wamalwa's candidature to FORD Kenya party leader Moses Wetangula, claiming Wamalwa was freely handed the party's ticket when vying for the MP's seat.
"He is saying I am project and Wetangula is leading him by the hand. So who is the project? Is he not a project too?" Natembeya posed.
The RC further ruled out Wamalwa's candidature stating that the Kiminini MP is not originally from the region.
