Governor Waiguru claims she is politically ripe for Deputy President position
Kirinyaga governor Anne Waiguru has categorically stated that she has what it takes to be the country's Deputy President and by extension the Head of State.
Speaking at a TV interview on October 4, 2021, the Jubilee governor stated that she holds the belief that she can serve the country as the second in command should the opportunity present itself.
Waiguru added that she is currently open to the idea of shelving her quest for re-election as Kirinyaga's governor to deputize a presidential candidate in the upcoming 2022 polls.
She stated that she has the political and educational wherewithal to hold the coveted seat. Her assertion comes in the backdrop of numerous engagements between her and prospective presidential candidates in the Uhuru succession race.
"I have what it takes to be not only the Deputy President of Kenya but also the President. I believe I am capable, I have the skills, I am well educated and I have the mettle of doing the job. If the opportunity of being the DP presents itself, I will take it," she said.
The county head was also taken to task to explain her recent remarks that indicated her imminent exodus from Jubilee to Ruto's UDA party.
Asked whether she was warming up for the nascent party, the county chief stated that she will hold a flurry of engagements with her constituents before making a decision on her next political trajectory.
"I am still engaging my constituents to know which party they would prefer me to use to retain my gubernatorial seat. I have delivered in my first term and it is a no-brainer that I will be re-elected. It is however advisable that I use a political vehicle that will make me electable," she said.
