Deputy President William Ruto has refuted claims that he has started to campaign for his 2022 presidential bid.

While addressing the media at his official residence in Karen on Monday, November 22, Ruto said that the rallies he has been going to across the country are official.

"I haven't started the campaign because the campaign period has not yet been announced by the IEBC. What you have seen me do, is to do what my mandate permits; speaking to people, understanding their issues, accessing the extend of our government programs how far they have gone, and receiving feedback from the public," Ruto explained.

The second in command explained that the aspect of public participation is no longer a sterile provision since the members of the public make up a big constituency in government's performance, therefore, their feedback is very important.

"If you see me in various parts of the country, it is because I am the deputy president and we have government projects all over the country and I would wish to get feedback from the public regarding the projects," Ruto added.

Ruto noted that he will only start his campaigns once the electoral commission gives him a green light to do so.

"Maybe you have never seen me in a tie and a suit, which I think is the problem. Government projects can be done even without a tie," Ruto said amid laughter.

Ruto's statement comes at a time when he has been crisscrossing the country asking Kenyans t join his party UDA as well as criticising his political opponents on various issues.
