I’m sure I’ll be re-elected as Kiambu governor on UDA ticket – Waititu
Former Kiambu governor Ferdinand Waititu now says he is sure Kiambu residents will re-elect him back to his gubernatorial office come 2022.
Waititu who spoke in one of the local media outlets said his development track record in various parts of Kiambu County speaks for itself and that Kiambu voters have been requesting him to come back.
Waititu singled out constructions of hospitals, bus stations, bypasses to get rid of traffic snarl-ups among other developments which he said are still useful and impactful to Kiambu residents.
"Tigoni and Thika Level Five among other hospitals were stalled before I took over. They are now complete. I have not even mentioned the many markets that were almost complete before I was dethroned," he said.
Waititu said he will be seeking to fly the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket and expressed confidence in the nomination process.
Waititu will be competing for the party ticket with Thika MP Patrick Wainaina who is also eyeing Kiambu gubernatorial seat under the Deputy President William Ruto's party.
He will also face former governor William Kabogo, Senator Kimani Wamatangi, Juliet Kimemia among others who are also vying for the seat.
Waititu has however dismissed the candidacy of other aspirants who are seeking to clinch the seat with other parties other than UDA. He claimed that the candidates are not serious contenders noting that the entire Mt Kenya region is behind William Ruto.
Waititu who had joined Gideon Moi's KANU last year revealed that he made the move as a result of the numerous court fights he was struggling with but his heart was in UDA.
"They wanted to add me another case and that is how I changed my political affiliation for protection. I was actually advised to do so by some investigators and EACC officers," Waititu stated.
"I'm in UDA by choice and even when I was in KANU, my heart was still in UDA," said Waititu.
