Kajiado Governor Joseph Ole Lenku has fired County Executive Committee (CEC) for Public Service, Social Services, Administration and Inspectorate Services Samuel Seki.

In a statement on Tuesday, Lenku replaced Seki with Gender, Tourism and Wildlife CEC Member Alais Kisota who takes over the position in an acting capacity until a substantive CEC is appointed.

"The changes take place with immediate effect," the governor said.

This comes days after Seki declared to run for Kajiado Senate seat in a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket.

UDA is associated with Deputy President William Ruto and his allies.

Seki competed against Lenku before 2017 governor race nominations before elders prevailed upon him to back the current governor.

In return, he was given a job as a CEC for Public Service, Social Services, Administration and Inspectorate Services.

Leah Sankaire, the County Chief of Staff, is among senior staff in Lenku's government who have declared interest in political seats in UDA ticket.

Sankaire, who is eyeing the Kajiado Woman Representative seat, accompanied the DP to a function in Kitengela on Sunday.

Lenku is a staunch supporter of President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Handshake partner Raila Odinga.

He has, however, not declared which party he will use to defend his seat next year.
