Mt Kenya to show way for 2022, says MP
Mt Kenya region will be key in shaping the 2022 succession politics, Tigania East MP Joseph Kabeabea has said.
Speaking at Christian Foundation Fellowship church in Mukuyu, Murang’a county, he said the country will be watching which presidential candidate Mt Kenya will support.
He said a mutual agreement between President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto in 2013, that the former would support the latter after his term ends, is now the cause of division among the leaders and their followers in the region.
“All eyes will be focusing on Mt Kenya region to see if its people and leaders will keep the promise,” he said.
Political temperatures
Currently, two political factions — Tanga Tanga, which supports Ruto’s presidency and Kieleweke, behind Uhuru, — have clashed over succession politics in the next elections.
“We are all under one party (Jubilee) but then we have two factions and this has raised political temperatures in the country,” said Kabeabea (pictured).
His sentiments were echoed by Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro who retaliated Jubilee secretary general Raphael Tuju’s remarks that the party does not have a preferred candidate.
“Ruto is not the only unopposed presidential candidate for Jubilee and any other person who feels like joining the race can do so. This also applies to other elective seats,” he said.
Nyoro said it is important to unite the country and ensure the government delivers its promise to the people.
“The country should be focused on development and not politics. There is time for politics, and it’s not now,” he said.
