There is a growing discomfort within Amani National Congress (ANC) after reports suggested that its party leader Musalia Mudavadi is considering working with Deputy President William Ruto ahead of the August general elections.

This is after another party insider claimed that Musalia would be better off joining Raila Odinga's Azimio la Umoja camp rather than joining DP Ruto.

Speaking to a local publication, Khwisero MP Christopher Aseka, an ally of Musalia, claimed that his party leader's political future solely depends on the coalition he (Mudavadi) picks ahead of the elections.

He said that Mudavadi is likely to have a bright political future only if he joins Orange Democratic Movement party leader Raila Odinga in the coming polls.

Aseka noted that upon Raila's retirement from active politics, Mudavadi stands a higher chance of inheriting his (Raila) traditional support base in the Western and Nyanza regions. He said Mudavadi can only do that with ease only if he joins the former Prime Minister's side.

"I would advise my party leader to support Raila's presidential bid in the coming elections as per the prevailing political conditions," he told the publication.

He added: " If he supports DP Ruto, he might not add anything significant to his side for the next 10 years. He might get government positions but make no political mileage."

He also revealed that ANC has initiated coalition talks with DP Ruto's UDA which are taking place at high secrecy.

Though there are negotiations between the ANC and UDA, Aseka said that the coalition between the two parties will not yield much for DP Ruto's presidential bid in the Western region.

According to him, most voters from the region are not likely to change their support for Raila in favour of DP Ruto.

"We campaigned for Raila in 2017 and he has remained close to our people's heart over the years," Aseka said.

Aseka's statement comes days after two MPs and several MCAs from ANC dumped Mudavadi's side for Raila.
