Hours after President Uhuru Kenyatta met with a host of leaders from the Luo Nyanza region at State House Nairobi, Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has requested the same gesture from the Head of State.

Murkomen says Rift Valley leaders will wish to engage the President on a myriad of issues facing the region including the plight of farmers.

In a message he wrote on his social media handles, the former Senate Majority Leader says the region has been left behind in terms of development hence the need to engage President Uhuru on the way forward.

"If the President means well for Kenya let him and his Deputy meet leaders from every region.," he said

"For our region, we want to discuss Govt projects & the economy especially farmers issues. Will, he really meet us or visit Rift Valley anytime soon?" he posed.

Remarks by the Senator come ahead of President Uhuru's 3-day visit to Kisumu County where he is expected to launch projects worth billions of shilings.

Among the projects earmarked for unveiling by the Head of State are Sh3.8 billion rehabilitated Nakuru-Kisumu Metre Gauge Railway, Sh3 billion refurbished Kisumu port, Sh350 million ultra-modern Uhuru business park, Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium at the Mamboleo ASK ground, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Sports Complex, Inland Container Depot at Kibos and 400kv power project by Ketraco.

The Head of State will also commission a marine school in Kisumu which is part of the Railway Training Institute among other projects.

During the visit, the President will be joined by national and regional leaders including former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, Kisumu Governor Prof Anyang' Nyong'o among others.

The three-day visit will begin on Sunday ahead of the Madaraka Day celebrations set to be held at Jomo Kenyatta Stadium in Kisumu on Tuesday.

Only 3,000 invited guests are to be allowed at the 35,000-seater stadium with other locals advised to follow the event from home.
