Muturi yesterday warned Mt Kenya residents against trooping into one political party ahead of next year’s General-Election.

Terming it as “ill-advised and a killer of democracy,” Muturi who has also declared interest in the presidential race appeared to throw a jab at Deputy President William Ruto, who has been asking those who support him to join his United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.

The move has met resistance from some of his allies.

Among those opposed to the idea of folding their parties in favour of UDA are Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria who is the leader of Chama Cha Kazi, Mwangi Kiunjuri of The Service Party and Narc Kenya’s Martha Karua.

Muturi who was hosted by members of the Kikuyu Council of Elders from Githunguri in Kiambu County, said that political parties represent the interests of communities as they are institutions of public governance.

“Let us be in a party that identifies with our interests and our problems. We should not be hangers-on in a vehicle whose driver does not have our interests at heart for he may apply sudden brakes and we find ourselves thrown out,” said Muturi.

The Democratic Party (DP) presidential aspirant noted that those advocating for formation of one political party were playing underhand tactics.
