Nairobi Deputy Governor Ann Kananu Mwenda will spend more time in Kisumu in a bid to pick some ideas from Kisumu County governor Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o over his massive facelift of the city.

Speaking from Kisumu, the DG expressed her satisfaction at how Kisumu city has evolved and confirmed that she will be having a sit-down with Anyang' Nyong'o after Madaraka Day celebrations to compare development notes.

“It’s no doubt that a lot has changed in Kisumu and that the city is now cleaner and more organized. The governor has put in place a good plan to develop the city into this impressive status.

“I’ll be meeting the governor to brainstorm on how the two counties; Nairobi and Kisumu can work together and how Nairobi can mimic some of the development ideas from this region,” she told People Daily.

The DG says this is in line with her vision for Nairobi as echoed in her oath of office. “I today affirm my commitment to serve the people of Nairobi with dedication, discipline and integrity. I also commit to work and cooperate closely with NMS Director General Maj. Gen. Mohamed Badi and his team to ensure the transferred functions are further strengthened and supported to meet aspirations of the people of Nairobi,” Kananu said this while assuming office in January.

Kananu arrived in Kisumu on Monday, ahead of the 58th Madaraka day celebrations which is held at the Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium.

She was received at the Kisumu International Airport by Kisumu Deputy Governor Mathews Owili.

The 58th Madaraka Day celebration is being held in Kisumu for the first time since independence, thanks to the handshake deal between President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga.

Notable leaders are in attendance including Burundi President Evariste Ndayishimiye and his wife Angeline Ndayishimiye who arrived at the city on Monday.

Deputy President William Ruto, Cabinet Secretaries and other dignitaries are also expected to attend.
