Nairobi businessman-cum-politician Rodgers Mpuru has called on Martha Karua and senators Kipchumba Murkomen, James Orengo and Mutula Kilonzo to shelve their gubernatorial ambitions and instead focus on being legislators.

Mpuru said: "The four are good in legislation and they should purpose to be in parliament. Unfortunately, I have no control of self ambitions. All the best to them."

In response, Karua who is keen on replacing Anne Waiguru as Kirinyaga governor, said she had done enough in parliament.

"Spent enough time in parliament, did my bit and done with it. No going back," Karua said.

Karua ran against Waiguru in 2017 and lost.

She, however, claimed she won the election and challenged the outcome up to Supreme Court.

Murkomen, who is Deputy President William Ruto's right-hand man and Elkeyo Marakwet Senator, is seeking to dislodge Governor Alex Tolgos in 2022 general elections.

Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Jr will be seeking to replace Governor Kivutha Kibwana who has since served his two terms in office.

Kibwana has already announced that he will be running for president next year.

Senate Minority Leader James Orengo and ODM leader Raila Odinga's close ally will be vying for the Siaya gubernatorial seat.
