ODM leader Raila Amollo Odinga has on Wednesday October 13, 2021 promised to cancel student loan debts owed to the government by the Kenyan youths, should he ascend to the presidency in 2022.

The former premier, who was speaking at a whistle-stop rally during his tour of Nairobi County, stated that he will lead the nation to a journey of economic recovery, a journey he has christened as the third liberation.

"We will give the lowly placed persons enabling environment to start businesses. I will ensure the youth are equipped with skills that can earn them job opportunities in different fields. We will also scrap off student loan debts owed to the government," he said.

He added that his government will give loans to the youth to start businesses.

"My government will give youths loans to start business. I will also ensure that those doing businesses get seamless access to markets as we lessen the taxes charged on their goods," he said.

Raila also reiterated that he will introduce a social protection programme that gears towards providing poor Kenyans and jobless youths with a Ksh6,000 monthly stipend.

"We all know that our economy was ravaged by Covid-19 leading to rise in price commodities and the cost of living. We want to ensure that cost of fuel decreases as we work on introducing a Ksh6,000 monthly stipend for poor Kenyans and jobless youths," he added.
