All projects which stalled in Kiambu for the past one year will now be completed after the county government started paying contractors.

Governor James Nyoro said that the projects had stalled because his predecessor Ferdinand Waititu launched them before allocating budgets towards their construction.

“Most of the projects were started as public relations stunts for people to think work was being done, but my government will complete all of them soon', he said.

The governor who spoke at Kimende Trading Centre, in Lari when he made an impromptu inspection of the on-going refurbishment and tarmacking of roads, said that no new project would be started until all the old and stalled ones are completed.

He said that his administration would give health and roads as well as agriculture the first priority adding that Kiambu would no longer be a laughing stock.

'People should will soon start seeing Kiambu differently because our mission and vision is to ensure our county becomes a role model because it's the President's home', he said.

Nyoro said that the county government had entered into an agreement with the national government where every ward in the county will have 4km of road constructed.

'Each of our 60 wards will have 4 km of their crucial roads rehabilitated and we have already set aside cash towards the same and contractors are actually on the ground as we talk', he said.

'We shall later refurbish sidewalks, install street lights and also build modern kiosks in our major towns',  he said adding that the move will impact positively to growth and development.

He revealed that a farmers market will soon be set up at the popular Soko Mjinga fresh food crops market along the Nairobi/Nakuru Highway.

The governor who is a renowned food security expert said that agricultural production in Kiambu and particularly in Lari had been adversely affected due to lack of marketing venues and poor infrastructure.

“A farmers market will help farmers improve their livelihoods. Soko Mjinga is a very embarrassing market and more so when it rains, it becomes muddy and we must change that,” he said.

He at the same time urged locals to support BBI proposals for the sake of posterity and general development.

'We are pushing for fair revenue allocation so that counties can get revenue according to their population. We also want counties to be receiving 35 per cent of the national budget so that the effects of devolution can be felt', he said.

The governor cautioned Mt Kenya leaders against persistent politicking at the expense of service delivery noting that development calls for concerted efforts.

“Those of us engaging in 2022 elections and disrespecting and insulting President Uhuru Kenyatta should stop and concentrate their energy to serving the electorate because the elections are two years away,” he said.
