Machakos governor Alfred Mutua has taken a swipe at politicians who have been exerting pressure on Chief Justice Martha Koome to steer clear from the workings of the Technical Working Committee, that is tasked with overseeing election preparedness in regard to the upcoming 2022 general elections.

Mutua argues that the politicians should stop bullying the Lady Justuce for her involvement in the preparation for the 2022 general elections. He added that the same politicians kept mum when the erstwhile Chief Justice, David Maraga, participated in the elections preparedness committee.

"Politicians, stop bullying Chief Justice Martha Koome. When CJ Maraga participated in the Elections preparedness committee, they said nothing. Koome is there as chair of the National Council on the Administration of Justice. They should stop attacking her because she is a super woman CJ," he said.

Mutua's statement comes in the backdrop of a complaint lodged by Ruto's United Democratic Alliance Party about Koome's involvement in the preparations of the 2022 general elections.

In a letter undersigned against the name of its Secretary General, Veronica Maina, the Ruto affiliated party claimed that the CJ's continued involvement in the Technical Working Committee is likely to interfere with and shall threaten free and fair polls in 2022.

"We opine that your involvement in the consultative meetings of the Technical Working Committee is a clear violation of the Constitution, the Judicial Service Act, 2011, the Leadership and Integrity Act, 2012, the Public Officer Ethics Act, 2003, the Bangalore Principles and the Code of Conduct for Judicial Officers," the letter read in part.
