Presidential hopeful and speaker of the national assembly Justin Muturi has called out DP William Ruto for lying to Kenyans that he has not started to campaign for his bid to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Muturi said that the second in command has been publicly wooing Kenyans to vote for him come August next year.

Speaking at Kagaa PCEA church in Lari, Kiambu County during celebrations to mark the retirement of Rev. David Muriithi Gakibe, Muturi insisted that politicians must start telling Kenyans the truth instead of being daily double speakers to only win the hearts of electorates.

Muturi was responding to Ruto's remarks, who last week indicated he had not started campaigns for next year's presidential election.

While answering questions from journalists on Monday soon after he chaired an IBEC meeting at his Karen residence, Ruto instead cited that his countrywide meetings are not political campaigns but his duties as DP to listen to the views of the common people.

"I haven't started my campaigns because IEBC has not gazetted the period with which that should start happening. What you have seen me doing is my executing my mandate of listening to the views of people across the country," said the DP.

During his tour at the remotely located church, Muturi refused to speak politics and told journalists that the forum he was in was not ideal for him to politic.
