Storm as fresh ‘red alerts’ stop Miguna return
Supporters of controversial lawyer Miguna Miguna yesterday vowed not to rest until he is allowed back into the country.
Led by former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga, the activists protested fresh “red alerts” barring Air France from flying him into the country.
Addressing a press conference in Nairobi, Mutunga said Miguna’s sympathisers will not relent in their push to ensure the Canadian-based lawyer is allowed back in Kenya as ordered by the courts.
“The rule of law is part of the values and principles of governance espoused in Article 10 of the Constitution and should bind all State organs, State officers, public officers whenever they make or implement public policy
decisions,” said Mutunga on behalf of the group, which included Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Nelson Havi.
In a tweet on Monday, Miguna said he was informed about the new development at the Berlin Brandenburg Airport in Germany.
Miguna had booked an air ticket to travel from Canada via Germany and France to land in Kenya yesterday.
He said his flight was scheduled to land at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Tuesday at 9am.
Miguna had, through his lawyer John Khaminwa, said the alerts had prevented Lufthansa and Air France airlines from allowing him to board its
planes for purposes of travelling to and entering Kenya on November 16 or any other day.
“The red alerts issued by the Attorney General and Fred Matiang’i to the two airlines or any other airline should be lifted to enable me to travel to
Kenya,” he said.
