Former Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi (pictured, right) has urged leaders from the Somali community to unite in order to tackle challenges facing members of the community.

Abdullahi, who was speaking yesterday in Mombasa during the annual meeting of the Degodia Community in the Coast region, said it was time for the community to have a common agenda and align themselves with their counterparts in the Coast region.

“Our Somali community and the people of the Coast share common values and unfortunately face similar challenges. We have always sought an opportunity to solve our problems and speak in one voice at the national level. I believe that time has come,” said Abdullahi.

Community challenges

He urged members of the community, and other Somali clans in the North, to support ODM leader Raila’s bid for the presidency.

“Just like the people of the Coast, we have been relentless in our support for Raila Odinga in his quest to clinch power. We will back him once again and hopefully propel him to the house on the hill,” Abdullahi added.

Somali community Coast region chairman Mohamed Huri said the community was facing various challenges despite their contribution to the soci-economic forums in the region.

“Our challenges will be addressed when we put ODM in leadership both for presidency and in Wajir,” said Abdullahi who has declared that he will seek ODM’s nomination for the governor seat.
