You must assure us that Kikuyus will be safe under your leadership – Governor Nyoro tells presidential hopefuls
Kiambu Governor James Nyoro has urged the vote rich Mt. Kenya region to be guaranteed that they can engage in generating income businesses anywhere across the country without being threatened before they assure any presidential hopeful of their votes.
Governor Nyoro maintained that no one should ever again threaten the Kikuyu community to return home or destroy their property in every electioneering period due to politics.
He said that the community which commands a huge basket of votes and have often played a major role in deciding the leadership of the country must be respected.
Speaking when he launched the upgrading of Ngoingwa village roads in Thika, Kiambu County, Nyoro warned locals against electing a leader who is likely to stall the development projects started by President Uhuru Kenyatta in the Mt Kenya region.
"We need someone we can sit down and reason together for the welfare of our people and not a person who is likely to interfere with completion of the projects started by our president," he said.
Nyoro further said that all Presidential aspirants must not only avoid insulting the community but must also respect elected leaders as they know the challenges that their people face.
"Some of these people must stop insulting us. We want to be respected and more so, these people must respect elected leaders as they know best the challenges facing our people," he added.
The county boss took issue with his critics, saying they were out to sabotage his development track record, and warned residents against electing persons who are likely to drag development projects.
"Kiambu was dead when i assumed the current office, but we have revived it to its current state. In a short period, we have managed to especially do projects that were thereafter done in years and our resolve to transform Kiambu remains," he said.
Governor Nyoro will be battling it out against Thika MP Patrick Wainaina, senator Kimani Wamatangi, former Kiambu CEC Juliet Kimemia, Kiambu assembly speaker Stephen Ndichu, former governor William Kabogo among others.
The hopefuls have intensified their campaigns by launching projects, engaging the electorates in social welfare among other tactics, all in efforts to win them to their side.
