Preparations for this year’s Jamhuri Day celebrations got underway yesterday with the government setting up a technical team to coordinate preparations.

In a statement, Head of Public Service Felix Koskei (pictured) said the technical team, under the Ministry of Sports would oversee preparations for the celebrations to mark the country’s 60th independence anniversary, expected to be held at a yet to be disclosed venue in Nairobi.

“In this regard, the entire week starting December 5, 2023 to December 12 will be marked as Kenya Youth, Creative Economy and Sports Week. The Kenya at 60 theme will be commemorated for the entire month of December and should be integrated into the Christmas and New Year Festivities,” Koskei stated.

He announced that to ensure that the national celebration is organised around a specific theme, the Technical Committee will be chaired by former State House digital advisor Dennis Itumbi.

The team will be charged with coordinating the sector and activities together to achieve the intended goals.

Koskei urged the committee to work closely with all government departments to ensure that the story of our country is well-captured and demonstrated.
