The process of popularising the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) in the North Rift region through civic education has commenced.

Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Alex Tolgos, who is the BBI chairman in the Rift Valley region, said the project coordinators and the training of trainers (TOTs) were ready and prepared to move to all the counties in the region to sensitise the residents.

“We are going to make all the BBI documents, the popular version, the old draft and the bill to be presented to the county assemblies available to the residents at the grassroots so that our people can read and understand,” he said.

Speaking during a planning meeting with BBI coordinators from the region in Eldoret town on Monday, Tolgos added that they want residents to make an informed decision when deciding whether to support BBI.

He dismissed the notion that BBI was being forced on the people, saying “BBI is not being forced on anyone.

We only want the people to read and understand the document so that when they go to vote they adopt or reject it for concrete reasons”.

He requested the residents to give them a chance to explain to them what BBI is all about.

“From there, they make own decision whether to support or not, but I am very optimistic the people of this region will fully support BBI just like they supported the collection of signatures,” said the governor.

Tolgos further castigated individuals whom he claimed were spreading malicious rumours that BBI was about the 2022 General Election, saying the two issues were worlds apart. - KNA
