Profile: Meet Safaricom’s new CEO, Peter Ndegwa

The new Safaricom Chief Executive Officer Peter Ndegwa is as excellent as he comes, having served in top multinationals.

Ndegwa was a former Finance Director at Diageo, the parent company of East African Breweries Limited (EABL).

Ndegwa brings on board 25 years of corporate leadership having led in top-performing multinationals.

According to a business researcher, Government Business Review, Ndegwa was the first African to lead Diageo operations in Europe in the directorship capacity.

Before moving to Europe, Ndegwa was heading Guiness Nigeria from 2015 and Ghana between 2011-2015.

Ndegwa joined the operations of EABL in 2004 after serving with Audit firm Pricewaterhouse Coopers (PWC).

From the largest beer manufacturing firm in Kenya EABL, Ndegwa moves to the most profitable company in East Africa, Safaricom Plc.

Excited about the incoming Ndegwa, Safaricom board announced Ndegwa's past achievements at EABL.

"Peter is credited with the development of an affordable-beer strategy for EABL resulting in the production of new brands such as Senator beer. Senator beer became one of the most successful innovations by Diageo that has been featured in the Harvard Business Review," said Safaricom in a statement.

Ndegwa holds an MBA from the London Business School and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Nairobi.

He is also a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK).
