Recommendations of the Ndung’u Land Commission will be implemented if the Orange party leader Raila Odinga is elected president next year, his allies said, yesterday.

Led by Senate Minority Leader James Orengo, Raila’s cronies claimed the report implicates Deputy President William Ruto and his allies in land grabbing.

Orengo, who spoke in Gem constituency, Siaya county during the burial of the mother of area MP Elisha Odhiambo said Raila, who served as Prime Minister in the Grand Coalition Government, had set out to draft and implement the National Land Policy, which borrows several recommendations from Ndung’u report.

His sentiments were echoed by Alego/Usonga MP Samwel Atandi, who reminded lawmakers allied to Ruto that the report he claimed fingers some of them, would be implemented by a Raila government.

“We are aware that the report is in public domain. The report had been tabled at the National Assembly and only needs strict implementation,” he said.

“Raila will ensure the Ndung’u report is implemented to the latter,” said Atandi, adding: “Since the report was tabled, there have been numerous cases of land grabbing including the one involving the lone where Weston hotel stands on.”

“We want to remind Ruto’s lieutenants that as far as land grabbing is concerned, there have been massive investigations on injustices including Weston and Langata Primary School land, which were perpetuated by the DP and his cohorts.”

Atandi was accompanied by Eala MP Dr Oburu Oginga, Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang’  and MPs Jared Okello (Nyando), Otiende Amollo (Rarieda), Gideon Ochanda (Bondo), David Ochieng (Ugenya), Opiyo Wandayi (Ugunja), Siaya Speaker George Okode and former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero.

They were reacting to claims by some MPs from the Coast region allied to the Deputy President that the government implements the reports’ recommendations.

Lawmakers further said the implementation of the report’s recommendations will sort out the sticky land issues once and for all.

They were speaking on Sunday at Burhani Grounds in Mvita constituency where Ruto engaged with the Mombasa county community leaders.

Those who spoke about land included Khatib Mwashetani (Lunga Lunga), Aisha Jumwa (Malindi), Mohamed Ali (Nyali), Juma Wario (Tana River) and former Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar.
