Azimio la Umoja - One Kenya coalition leader Raila Odinga has announced weekly demonstrations to pile pressure on the government to act on the opposition's demands.

Addressing a roadside crowd in Eastleigh, Nairobi, after police disrupted Azimio's press conference at Serena Hotel on Monday, March 20, Raila said the anti-government protests that began today will continue every Monday until their grievances are addressed.

"Tumeanza vita. Kila juma tatu kutakuwa na mgomo. Kutakuwa na maandamano. Vita imeanza. Haitaisha mpaka wakenya wapate haki yao," Raila said.

Loosely translated, "The battle has started. There will be demonstrations every Monday until Kenyans get justice."

Azimio leaders led by Kalonzo Musyoka also demanded the unconditional release of opposition MPs who were arrested earlier today during demonstrations in Nairobi's Central Business District (CBD).

At least three members of parliament including, National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi and Senate Minority leader Stewart Madzayo were arrested on Monday morning for leading protests in the City centre.

The lawmakers were among a number of MPs who stormed the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) to express their disappointment with President William Ruto's administration.

Yesterday, Raila insisted that the protests were aimed at reclaiming his victory in the 2022 August polls, which he claims were rigged in favour of President Ruto.

"Let us all converge in the CBD and begin our grand March to State House to reclaim our stolen victory,” Raila said.

The former prime minister has listed six reasons for the opposition's calls for peaceful demonstrations, including President William Ruto's refusal to allow the audit of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) servers, high cost of living, nepotism in the current administration, lack of consultations in the reconstitution of IEBC and broken promises among others.
